Frequently Asked Questions
CBD 101
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, abbreviated to “CBD”, is one of approximately 115 “phytocannabinoids” naturally occurring in hemp (cannabis) plants.
What is the difference between CBD & THC?
CBD and THC are the most predominant compounds of the cannabis plant. Hemp plants produce a greater amount of CBD, whereas marijuana plants produce a greater amount of THC. The biggest difference between these two cannabinoids is that THC is psychoactive and will produce mind altering effects, whereas CBD is non-psychoactive and will not “get you high.”
Can CBD be psychoactive?
No, CBD is not a psychoactive compound—CBD will not get you high. This is consistent in all hemp strains.
What is an endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids (cannabinoids produced by the body) and the receptors they bind to, cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2). The endocannabinoid system has been shown to be involved in the regulation of a number of physiological and cognitive processes throughout the human body. Fun fact: dogs, cats, and horses also possess an endocannabinoid system, similar to humans!
Is CBD legal?
Yes. On December 20, 2018 the Farm Bill declared that all hemp extracts (CBD) are legal, as well as agricultural products provided that they contain less than 0.3% THC.
What is industrial hemp?
Industrial hemp is the hemp plant which has been used, historically, to produce items such as: hemp seed oil, rope, paper, household items, clothing, and now CBD extract. By law, industrial hemp strains must contain less than 0.3% THC to be considered legal for distribution. Our CBD products contain less than the legal limit!
What are Terpenes?
Terpenes are the primary constituents of the essential oils of hemp. These provide the scent and flavor of the plant. Terpenes create resinous sacs on the plant, these can provide natural sunblock for the plant. Terpenes aren’t just found in cannabis, they’re found in pine trees, lavender, lemons, they’re naturally occurring aspects of many plants. Terpenes are proven to have beneficial properties, while also contributing to the “entourage effect.”
What is the "entourage effect?"
The “Entourage Effect” is the result of many components within the hemp plant interacting with the body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone—it’s a synergistic effect. The entourage effect can only be found in broad and full-spectrum CBD products. We believe our full-spectrum rosin is the most effective extraction method for preserving the entourage effect.
What is full-spectrum CBD?
Full-Spectrum is often used to convey that the whole plant was used in the extraction method. The whole cannabis plant contains over 480 phyto-compounds including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and fatty acids. This is vastly different from isolate and broad spectrum.
Isolate is the term used to describe CBD in its isolated crystalline form. CBD isolate is considered the least effective form of CBD. CBD isolate is associated with a volatile process, using solvents like ethanol, butane, or propane for extraction. Broad-spectrum refers to CBD that has other cannabinoids and terpenes present except THC. While broad-spectrum is better than isolate in health and efficacy, it still has to undergo THC remediation which requires the use of solvents and chemicals.
Our Farm
Where do you grow your hemp?
Farmhouse Hemp has two organic farms located in Laporte, Colorado and Augusta, Wisconsin. We take two major precautions to ensure the efficacy of our products:
We hand pick clones from the same two hemp strains. We don’t put our eggs in one basket. If one of our crops gets seeded, hailed on, or is rendered unusable by mother nature, we can rely on our other crop to formulate our products.
This allows us to provide consistent CBD products year round.
Is your hemp grown organically?
We are 100% organic in our farming practices. We never use pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Our hemp is grown without fertilizers or inputs. We use sunlight, water, and fish emulsion.
Is your hemp federally legal?
Yes. Our hemp is 100% federally legal and complies with the 2018 Farm Bill. All of our hemp is third party tested by the state to ensure it is below the .3% THC legal limit.
What strains of hemp do you use?
We’ve experimented with a variety of strains but have found Wife and Cherry to be the most effective. This is not a “set-it and forget-it process.” We seek the best genetics to provide our customers with the most unique cannabinoid and terpene profile possible.
Do you test for heavy metals, pesticides, and herbicides regardless of your farming practices?
Yes, we go through rigorous testing at all levels of our process. We test our soil, hemp plants, cbd extracts, as well as our final products, to ensure the safest and highest quality CBD on the market.
Our Shop
Where are your products made?
All of our products are made in our commercial kitchen in Fort Collins, Colorado.
How do you extract your CBD?
Farmhouse Hemp uses an extraction process called Rosin Tech. Utilizing low heat and pressure, we take small batches of our organically grown hemp and, literally, squeeze the oil out. The result is a solventless, chemical-free rosin that retains all aspects of the hemp plant.
This method is in direct contrast to the industry standard of ethanol and co2 extraction. These systems require lab coats, gloves, and produce a hazardous byproduct. One of the biggest reasons we decided to stay away from co2 and ethanol was because of the damage it can cause to the terpene and cannabinoid retention. This method is safe, pure, and produces a compostable bi-product.
It’s as close to mother nature as we can get - and that is the Farmhouse difference.
Is your lab/commercial kitchen licensed and insured with the State of Colorado?
Yes. Our commercial kitchen and lab is fully insured and licensed with the state of colorado and CDPHE (Colorado Public Health and Environment).

Is Farmhouse Hemp organic?
Farmhouse Hemp uses only the highest quality USDA certified organic ingredients in our products. We also put an emphasis on sustainably sourced raw materials. Your ingredient list says "Hemp Rosin," what is that?
Rosin is a term used to describe CBD that is extracted using only low heat and pressure. Rosin is one of the only 100% solventless and chemical free ways to extract CBD from start to finish. It preserves all the cannabinoids, fatty acids, vitamins, and terpenes to ensure the highest quality extract on the market.
What is the shelf life of Farmhouse products?
For optimal potency and effectiveness, we recommend using your Farmhouse product within one year of your purchase. When not in use, we recommend storing your product in a cool and dark place.
How often should I take Farmhouse products?
Farmhouse Hemp can be taken multiple times a day, or at a particular time of day depending on the desired effect. All of our products are safe to use, are formulated with organic ingredients, and are third party tested before being sold and distributed.
Who performs your 3rd-party testing?
We use Botanacor Laboratories out of Denver, Colorado to test all of our products. Farmhouse Hemp tests every single batch for purity and accuracy.
Where can I find my product's test results?
On the bottom of every Farmhouse product is a batch number. If you go to the testing page of our website, you can see exactly what’s in your product. There, you can find our certificate of analysis, provided by Botanacor Laboratories, and see the contents of your CBD. If you have any specific questions please contact info@farmhousehemp.com
Will I pass a drug test if I use your products?
The consumption of certain hemp products may lead to a positive drug test for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Inherently, there are trace amounts of THC in hemp plants. The legal limit of THC in hemp is no more than 0.3%. While all Farmhouse products are below the legal limit and, although the risk is low, individual biochemistry has much to do with the possibility of the conversion of cannabinoids. We strongly suggest consulting your health care provider before consuming any hemp products if you are subject to drug testing.
